BITC Urges UK firms to Make their Supply Chains Accessible for SMEs

A reputable business charity Business In The Community (BITC) wants that SMEs be offered more opportunities to land key contracts by way of enhanced transparency. The company is encouraging organisations throughout the UK to open up their supply chains meaning that smaller firms have a better opportunity of securing these agreements. The charity also wants larger firms to enter into an 'access pledge' thereby promising to make their operations simple, transparent and fair on a level playing field. The goal is to improve communities by enabling local businesses get the major contracts, as per the reports.

Head of operations at BITC, Matthew Lill said: "If you have a £25,000 contract, do you need to have £50 million of public liability insurance against it? Often that is not deliberate and has just been copied and pasted from another contract, but it immediately excludes SMEs."

The purpose of this move is to boost parameters around the supply chains that are present within the aerospace and automotive sectors.
